Hi, nice to finally meet you. I am Yuhao and go by Hao (pronounced exactly like "HOW"). I am the founder and therapist at HouseYourMind.
Before continuing to introduce myself to you, I have some questions for you:
Have you ever felt like life tells you your pain, stress, or struggles don’t matter?
Do you worry about how others will judge you or what they might say when you show your authentic, imperfect self?
Do you ever feel trapped, lost, or out of control, as if there are no choices or too many choices that leave you overwhelmed?
Have you ever questioned your purpose—wondering what you are doing, who you really are, or what comes next for you?
Do you ever struggle to express your loneliness, even to the person you’re closest to, afraid that they might not understand and that their disappointment would make you feel even more alone?
Many of us move through life daily, often too busy or with no intention to take the time to reflect on our encounters. We may express ourselves or react with strong emotions, which can lead to various consequences, but often, we push our deeper feelings and thoughts aside until we reach a breaking point. If you are struggling with navigating your life, I want you to know that it’s OK not to be OK, and you deserve compassion, support, and the care you need.
My Clinical Experience:
As I have developed in my counselling practice, my approach has evolved into a more holistic style that blends evidence-based techniques. Such an approach has helped clients work through challenges, including, but not limited to, grief, anxiety, and depression, while supporting their sense of self and relationship dynamics. In my work with clients facing neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and Autism, I emphasize creating a supportive environment that respects their individuality and promotes self-acceptance. For clients with trauma histories, I incorporate trauma-informed care, ensuring that their experiences are validated while introducing grounding techniques to foster safety and stability.
My “Unique Value Proposition (UVP)”
I have worked and am dedicated to continue working with clients across the range from emerging adulthood to more established stages of life, representing various cultural backgrounds and life experiences. My upbringing and immigration experience allow me to embrace both Eastern and Western cultures, which also equips me with a nuanced understanding of POC (person of colour) clients and those with multicultural identities. Through my personal experiences and critical observations, I have cultivated a nuanced understanding of the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA2S+ community, allowing me to provide empathetic, tailored, and effective support. Additionally, I have a diverse educational and professional background in governance, the legal sector, and marketing. This distinctive blend of expertise allows me to approach challenges with subtlety and nuance, offering a well-rounded understanding of the complexities faced by clients across various industries.
I don’t have all the answers for every client, and that’s what drives me to keep learning and growing—toward becoming a registered psychologist. When I’m not soaking up knowledge in cafés and libraries, you can probably find me at the gym, breaking a sweat—because mental and physical health go hand in hand! Self-care is my secret sauce for staying balanced, and I nurture my creative side with everything from acrylic painting to aromatherapy. I also stay connected with my social support system and give back to my community through volunteering. If you ever spot me at an airport, I’m likely heading to the next uncharted exotic destination—because life’s all about exploring the unknown!
